Kellogg’s to replace some striking workers after talks stall
The Kellogg's strike includes four plants in Battle Creek; Omaha, Nebraska; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Memphis, Tennessee, that make all of Kellogg's brands of cereal, including Frosted Flakes and Apple Jacks.
The strike has become increasingly bitter with the company going to court earlier this month to get an order that sets guidelines for how workers in Omaha behave on the picket line. The company complained that striking workers were blocking entrances to its cereal plant and intimidating replacement workers, but union officials denied any wrongdoing.
The union believes it has leverage in the contract talks because of the ongoing widespread worker shortages in the economy. Union members have also said they believe they deserve more after working long hours during the coronavirus pandemic over the last 18 months.
In another recent strike, more than 10,000 Deere workers returned to work earlier this month after securing 10% raises and improved benefits in a new six-year deal.

Kellogg’s to replace some striking workers after talks stall
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Kellogg’s plans to start hiring permanent replacements for some of its 1,400 striking cereal plant workers after negotiations broke down again.
The Battle Creek, Michigan-based company said it failed to reach an agreement with the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union Monday, so it is moving forward with its plan to keep its plants operating with salaried employees and outside workers.

“We recognize the hardship that this prolonged strike represents for our employees,” the company said in a statement. “After 15 negotiations sessions in 2021 – and no proposals put to membership for a vote – we are left with no choice but to best serve the short- and long-term interests of our customers and consumers by moving to the next phase of our contingency plans.”
The Kellogg Co. said that plan includes continuing to use temporary workers to operate their plants and in some cases hiring permanent replacements for striking workers.
The union and the twin cities live com are struggling to reach an agreement over how to address the two-tiered system of wages Kellogg’s uses that gives newer workers less pay and fewer benefits. The company said it proposed a plan for workers to move up to the higher legacy pay level after four years of experience, but the union hasn’t been satisfied with what the company offered.
Currently, as much as 30% of the workforce at the plants receives those lower wages, creating a wedge within the union’s ranks.

I just got into mixing drinks and this was my first time using a shaker. Such an easy drink to make and so good!
Great fall cocktail--I left out the maple syrup as I prefer my cocktails not so sweet :)
I brought this drink to a Thanksgiving dinner in 2019 (pre-COVID times) and my wife told me that we would be the only ones drinking it. She was wrong. The bottle was drained in less than an hour. One of my favorites.
Really great drink! Tart and well balanced with a nice punch, it's perfect for the fall season. My fiance and I enjoyed this during our Quarantine Thanksgiving for 2 this year!
Yum. Now I just need a coupe glass to enjoy it even more.
I made this last year after seeing it in the fall issue. It is Fall in a glass. Sweet, tart and rich. This is now a go-to fall cocktail in my house after serving it to family last Thanksgiving.
I love the thought of "test driving" a recipe. Looking forward to whipping this one up!
This is a winner! Absolutely delicious . I agree with another reviewer that it is good to strain the citrus juice. I have also made this with bourbon when we ran out of applejack (!!) and it’s just as good. This is now part of our cocktail repertoire!
Dammmmmmn this is delicious! Strain your citrus for a cleaner sip.
I really enjoyed this. Very nice combination of a little sweet and a little tart.
Hey, can you give advice on mixing a batch/pitcher of these? Because nothing says "make ahead" more than Thanksgiving. I'd love to just have these ready as guests arrive.
I meant "t", not "T".
I meant "t", not "T".
I "test drove" this recipe today today to preview it for Thanksgiving. It's a GO! Tried one with nutmeg and one with pumpkin pie spice and both were great. For one I used the 2 T of maple syrup, and for the other I used 1T maple syrup and 1 T apple cider, and they were both winners. Served on the rocks for "sippers." I think my guests are going to LOVE them!

Apple Jacks

Introduced in 1965
A... is for Apple
J... is for Jacks
Cinnamon, toasty Apple Jacks
This cereal has been described on the box as a "ready-sweetened apple & cinnamon flavored cereal" and an "apple-cinnamon coated cereal". More recent boxes have called Apple Jacks a "crunchy sweetened three-grain cereal with apple & cinnamon."
When this cereal first came out, TV commercials (and cereal boxes) featured a walking, talking apple in a bow tie named Apple Jack. In one ad, Apple Jack encounters a little boy with no energy who "can't keep up" with his friends. Apple Jack offered the following jingle to help the kid out:
(You need) New Kellogg's Apple Jacks
Apple good for breakfast or snacks
Cinnamon toasty... apple tasty (made with real apple bits!)
A bowl a day gives you energy to play.
Company Description:Kellogg's was originally founded as the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company in 1906. The company's founder Will Keith Kellogg is credited with inventing corn flakes along with his brother John Harvey Kellogg. The company was renamed the Kellogg Company in 1922... As much as I hate eating a strait-up RAW apple, I still drink, Apple juice, I still eat Apple pie, and you guessed it, I still like this cereal, I mean, it's not my personal favorite cereal, but it's still freaking delicious!

Please bring back the original formula that tastes so much better. You will also increase sale of milk because it makes the milk taste like a breakfast milkshake. Please reconsider and bring back the original formula which was orange O's with cinnamon bits!

I highly recommend they bring back the original formula (Orange Os with apple bits)and let America decide. This will bring them back a winning product.

My favorite cereal ever... and that's a hard decision!

This cereal would show up when the family went camping, so it was truly a "treat" brand. I remember the flavor as spicy and sharp, with a cinnamon taste. This would have been in the mid-to-late 60's and I can truly admit I have no recollection of how sugary this cereal may have been.

Apple Jacks are 53% SUGAR, highest of any cereal... 53%...!!! Gross! Feed your kid cake for breakfast, it has less sugar!

I want a box of just the orange Apple Jacks like before the late 90s. I think they taste just about the same as decades ago, maybe off a little but not that much.

Apple Jacks don't taste the same since they added the green color. Bring back just the plane old orange rings.
